The Committee of e-Business Industry Heads has elected a new Executive Committee led by Mrs Abidemi Asunmo as Chairman, with a mandate to deepen collaboration, strengthen advocacy, and drive innovation across Nigeria’s financial and payments ecosystem.

Asunmo, who is the Group Head of e-Business and Transaction Banking at PremiumTrust Bank, becomes the 10th Chairman of CeBIH and the third woman to occupy the position. She unveiled an agenda centred on Payment System Vision 2028 implementation, advocacy, fraud mitigation, digital identity, ethical use of Artificial Intelligence, and financial inclusion during the 2026 CeBIH election and swearing-in ceremony.

The new Executive Committee includes Abednego Ugwueke as Vice-Chairman; Temitope Onibaniyi as Secretary, Industry Shared Services; Jimmy Banjoko as Secretary, Pricing & Revenue Assurance; Dr Sunday Olaniyan as Secretary, OFIs & Fintech Relations; and Lanre Ogundare as Secretary, Emerging Payments & Technologies. Others are Gbolabo Cole as Chief Finance Secretary; Abayomi Olomu as Treasurer; Akinlabi Adegoke as Secretary, Publicity & Advocacy; Adaeze Ume as Internal Auditor; Daniel Ivagba as Head, e-Banking Operations Sub-Committee; and Dr Uju Ndu-Okereke as Provost, CeBIH Academy.

Unveiling the administration’s priorities, Asunmo said, “At the top of our agenda is our commitment to supporting the successful implementation of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Payment System Vision 2028,” which she noted provides a roadmap covering financial inclusion, digital payments growth, open banking, cybersecurity, and regulatory efficiency. She pledged that CeBIH would strengthen engagement with regulators and stakeholders to ensure that the vision translates from policy into meaningful industry outcomes.

On advocacy and inclusion, Asunmo said CeBIH would expand its engagement beyond regulators and industry stakeholders to ordinary consumers of banking services.

“Our advocacy cannot stop with regulators and industry stakeholders; we must increasingly engage the Nigerian public—the ultimate beneficiaries of the financial ecosystem we are helping to build,” she said.

She added that the committee would explore initiatives around consumer education, media engagement, digital banking awareness, fraud prevention, and public conversations on the future of financial services, stressing that CeBIH must become more visible and accessible to the people whose trust ultimately determines the success of digital financial services.

Addressing digital identity and inclusion, Asunmo noted that Nigeria’s digital economy cannot reach its full potential without a trusted and effective digital identity infrastructure, adding that a robust framework would help expand access to banking, payments, credit, and other financial services.

She also identified artificial intelligence as a major opportunity for expanding financial access, saying it could enhance customer onboarding, personalised services, and access for underserved populations.

The Chairman pledged to promote responsible innovation anchored on trust, privacy, security, and inclusion, while strengthening capacity building through the CeBIH Academy. She added that her administration would ensure member banks collaborate more than they compete to deliver increased value to the banking public.

CeBIH comprises the upper echelon of electronic business industry practitioners across all commercial banks in Nigeria, with the primary objective of promoting electronic banking services in line with global best practices while driving adoption through appropriate policies, standards, technologies, and public awareness initiatives.
