Cowry Securities clinches top spots in NGX rankings
Cowry Securities Limited has emerged as one of the most active dealing member firms on the local bourse, securing top positions in both the equity and fixed-income categories of the weekly broker rankings.
According to the weekly broker performance report released by the Nigerian Exchange Limited for the final week of May 2026, the firm recorded a massive market turnover, reinforcing its dominant footprint in the highly competitive brokerage ecosystem.
A data breakdown from the NGX tracking broker performance between 25 May and 29 May 2026 revealed that Cowry Securities ranked second overall by value of transactions executed on the exchange. The firm successfully brokered a total transaction value of N18.19bn, capturing a significant chunk of the institutional and retail order flows that crossed the trading floor during the holiday-shortened week.
In tandem with its strong equity run, Cowry Securities also registered a major presence on the fixed-income desk, ranking ninth in total bond transactions for the same period.
Bourse analysts note that the dual-category performance reflects the firm’s deliberate strategy to diversify its transaction pipelines across multiple asset classes rather than relying solely on equity market velocity.
The current ranking aligns with Cowry Securities’ historical track record on the NGX, where it has consistently maintained a residency within the top-tier bracket of active brokerage firms.
Speaking on the performance layout, senior executives at the firm noted that the achievement underscores Cowry Securities’ ongoing commitment to providing domestic and international investors with efficient, frictionless access to investment opportunities while actively supporting deep liquidity pools within the Nigerian capital market. The milestone arrives at a critical juncture for the broader financial services group.
Cowry Asset Management, the parent company of the brokerage firm, is currently marking its 20th anniversary, celebrating two decades of market operations, wealth creation, and financial advisory solutions. Over the past 20 years, the Cowry Group has grown from a boutique investment house into a fully integrated financial services provider, playing a key role in Nigeria’s capital formation and the development of its financial services industry.
Company sources say the group’s long-term focus is on building innovative investment architecture, managing risk for its diverse clientele, and deploying scalable wealth management platforms to match shifting macroeconomic dynamics.
With the NGX transitioning to a faster T+1 post-trade settlement cycle starting 1 June 2026, high-volume trading desks like Cowry Securities are expected to see an initial acceleration in transaction turnover. Market observers predict that top-ranked brokers who have already synchronised their backend Straight-Through Processing engines will likely capture an even larger share of market value as asset lock-up periods compress down to 24 hours.
