Stock market opens week with N77bn decline<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nigerian equities market commenced the new trading week on a subdued note as investors lost N77bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The All-Share Index lost 118.66 points, representing a decline of 0.05 per cent, to close at<\/p>\n\n\n\n

247,238.74 points. Also, market capitalisation shed N77bn to close at N159.511tn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The downturn was driven by price depreciation in large- and medium-capitalised stocks, including Transcorp Power, Fidson Healthcare, BUA Cement, Nigerian Aviation Handling Company, and NEM Insurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investor sentiment was negative, as 32 decliners outpaced 27 advancers. Thomas Wyatt Nigeria emerged as the highest price gainer with a 9.92 per cent increase to close at N3.99 per share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lasaco Assurance followed with a gain of 9.89 per cent to close at N2.00, while Critical Minerals<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Financing Corporation rose 9.18 per cent to close at N3.45 per share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chams Holding Company increased 7.78 per cent to close at N4.85, while Nigerian Exchange<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Group rose 6.96 per cent to close at N158.30 per share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the flip side, Sunu Assurance and Transcorp Power led the losers\u2019 chart with a 10 per cent drop each to close at N3.24 and N219.60, respectively, while International Breweries followed with a decline of 9.85 per cent to close at N12.35 per share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals depreciated  9.78 per cent to close at N8.30, while Austin<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Laz & Company fell 9.64 per cent to close at N3.28 per share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the total volume of trades increased 3.81 per cent to 637.961 million units valued at<\/p>\n\n\n\n

N57.202bn in 71,240 deals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transactions in the shares of Access Holdings led the activity chart with 47.575 million shares worth N1.369bn. FCMB Group followed with 40.333 million shares valued at N478.246m, while First Holdco traded 34.197 million shares valued at N4.248bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Champion Breweries traded 33.152 million shares worth N372.208m, while Zenith Bank traded<\/p>\n\n\n\n

25.442 million shares worth N3.228bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
